Indo-US Strategic Partnership
In determining the present and future directions of the Indo-US strategic partnership, one has been seeing the role of a new component of soft power, which is a common heritage of India and the US -- the soft power of the growing Indo-American community in the US.
No
other immigrant community in the US -- not even from Europe or South
America -- has played such an important role as the Indo-American
community in acting as a catalyst for closer bilateral relations
between the US and the country of origin of the immigrants.
One
saw in the case of the Jewish community in the US the role, which a
Diaspora can play as an element of soft power. One is seeing it now in
the case of the Diaspora of Indian origin. This soft power can add
strength to the Indo-US strategic partnership and should be valued and
nourished by the two governments. And organizations such as ours Kadva Patidar Samaj of Chicago should realize this and learn from it.

Religion is not universal. However, science of mind, spirituality, emotions, and
our common experiences are universal. Sincerity, truthfulness, and kind attitude makes one feel happy.
One great Indian nuclear physicist, Dr Raja Ramanna said that he once read this text of Nagarjuna, he was surprised when he found in this text the concept of quantum physics and relativity.
The West discovered these concepts at the end of the 19th century or the beginning of the 20th century when some Indian sages like Nagarjuna knew it 2,000 years ago.
As a physicist, (Dr Ramana) was really surprised.
Certain religions such as Buddhism, like Jainism does not have the concept of a creator. It is not based on a creator, but on the law of cause and effect (or Law of Causality). It is similar to the Darwinian Theory. Therefore ultimately, action is the real cause of all events.
Action entirely depends on motivation. Motivation means the mind, emotions, etc.
In order to tackle emotions, to reduce destructive emotions and increase constructive emotions, you have to know what is 'emotion' and the root cause of the emotion.
In Hinduism, you have three things Shila (abstinence from killing, stealing, lying, sexual misconduct and intoxication), Samadhi (concentration), and Prajna (understanding, discernment or cognitive acuity).
The serious practitioners first go through Shila, many physical practices, several disciplines, etc, then Samadhi (Dhyana), concentration, one pointed concentration, then Vipassana. Buddhism, Jainism and Hinduism have the same.
Samadhi and Vipassana are the workings of mind. We have to know about the mind.
In Hinduism and Buddhism, there is a lot of explanation about the mind, many categories of mind. Therefore Hinduism and Buddhism could be considered as 'science of mind'. The science of Hinduism and Buddhism is not necessarily the Hindu religion or the Buddhist religion. That is one aspect.
Another is the Hindu and the Buddhist philosophy (or concept), like the Hindu priciple of Karma or the Buddhist relativity of things; then, you have Hindu or Buddhist religion.
It is important (to understand) that when we say 'Hindu science' or 'Buddhist science', we mean science of the mind; it is something universal; it is not a religion.
Buddhism, Jainism and Hinduism religion is not universal, it is only for Buddhists, Jains, and Hindus respectively. This is clear.
Here we are not interested in religious beliefs, but we are interested in experiences and explanations, or techniques for (studying) the mind and emotions. Therefore, it is useful to make the distinction between philosophy and religion vs science.

Marriage needs adjustment: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan More Pics
Three
years after they married, Junior Bachchan and wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan are
still very much in love.
Asked how she knew Abhishek was
‘the one’, the former Miss World and actress says, “You know,
it’s weird, but the moment we got together, it was a sense of coming home.
Like I would have been surprised if we didn’t.”
Do they
make compromises in their marriage? During an interview to a magazine, Abhishek
said, “I don’t look upon any of it as compromise. The fact that she
is in my life and I am married to her is of more importance and happiness to me
than anything that I could possibly compromise on.” Adds Ash, “I
think marriage takes for adjustment, not compromise, and it means doing all that
you need to do to commit to your relationship. If there is anything that makes
you feel like it’s a compromise, that means there is an area of
discomfort, and that means there’s already something unsettling. But why
talk of marriage and compromise? Life asks for adjustments and you do that. You
are like water—you find your fit. You look upon life like that, why
necessarily compartmentalise marriage?”
How does the couple
think their 25th wedding anniversary would look like? Ash exclaims, “Wow.
I don’t think that far. I can’t believe we just celebrated our third
wedding anniversary. It still feels fresh, it feels like yesterday we were being
congratulated for our marriage. A certain song starts playing, and it feels
like yesterday. It doesn’t feel like a long time ago, and God willing, it
continues to feel this way. We’ll be there in a flash, I think. I just
didn’t think my life would pan out the way it has. In my initial
interviews I would say one day at a time, and I am still holding on to
that.” Keep the love flowing!

Genius of India
India's culture through the ages
In an essay written
in 1918
and entitled The Renaissance in India, Sri Aurobindo presents
us with
a masterly view of India's culture through the ages -- her
essential
spirit and her characteristic soul, her unique genius and
powers which
gave her remarkably long periods of greatness and an
unusually prolific
creativity -- that which allowed her to survive for so long
when other
ancient civilizations faded away. He explains the basis of her
strength
-- that which enabled her to resist so many attempts at
crushing her
culture. He also shows how a renaissance in India, resting on
these
foundations, using these very tendencies and powers, arising,
as he
says "from the roots of our being", could be possible -- in
other words, how the same soul could create a new body.
"It is a great error to suppose that spirituality flourishes best in an impoverished soil with the life half-killed and the intellect discouraged and intimidated. The spirituality that so flourishes is something morbid, hectic and exposed to perilous reactions. It is when the race has lived most richly and thought most profoundly that spirituality finds its heights and its depths and its constant and many-sided fruition."
